From July 26 to 30, 2022, we had the Pre-Chapter Assembly in Addis Abeba, we were 19 sisters from 5 communities in Ethiopia, in those days we met to share, to listen each other and to dream about the future reconfiguration, as the Congregation is inviting us to move forward, a new province with the “union of Egypt, Meddle East, Sudan and Ethiopia ” and God’s will one day also with Eritrea, and a “new way of leadership”.
This provoked a bit of fear, and also anxiety that started dropping a bit as we came to know few details of the new task, we still having many more questions that we couldn’t answer in the assembly, but we became aware that this has been the journey of other congregations, and now is the time for us to face the process with hope. As Ethiopian Province, we committed ourselves to walk in faith, after reflecting in our charismatic priorities in the mission and how to strength our presence in evangelization bringing the good news of Jesus into every human situation as Abba Daniel Asefa said “We evangelize through what we say, what we are, and sometimes through what we do not do, for instance taking a stand by saying no to injustice, discrimination been witness to the gospel, in a more holistic view. Starting with the situation in which we are in today context, in terms of time and space”
We are grateful to the different commissions who collect information from the provinces and presented to us, we have found common situations, we felt the need to be guided by the Holy Spirit to collaborate among us, to be transparent and clear in the discernment where the Lord is calling us to be.
With the new shape of the reconfigure province, it will be very important to experience a strong communication to create “unity and good relationship”, for those sisters who will be the leaders apart from knowing about the resources and the service we can offer, they will need to experience a deep faith (faith that can be shared and gives tremendous meaning to live) and healthy relationship with those entrusted to them, somebody said that “in relationship people have been hurt and in relationship they can be healed”, to build up a large community.
The reconfiguration that is going to be, it will be a challenge by itself, we trust Comboni and our First Sisters to intercede for us.
